Katharina Hacker

The Have-nots / Die Habenichtse
Suhrkamp

Isabelle and Jakob meet on 11 September 2001. They marry and move to London where Jakob takes on a job in a law practice. They both appear to have everything typical of a young, successful couple – and yet are empty-handed. Helplessly and at a loss, they watch as their world falls apart. Katharina Hacker is masterly in her depiction of how much the inability to take decisions or to feel compassion clashes with the longing for existential experiences.
