Biography Wilfried Weber

Wilfried Weber spent his school years in the GDR and Bavaria. After training as a bookseller in Neuss am Rhein, he began his career as a bookseller in 1962 at Buchhandlung Felix Jud in Hamburg. He became a partner in 1972 and in 1985 he took over the business as sole owner. Over New Year 1989/90, the bookshop burnt down in an arson attack, but was re-opened in 1992 at Neuer Wall 13 in Hamburg. Wilfried Weber is a bookseller, antiquarian and art dealer as well as one of the founders of the Literaturhaus in Hamburg.

In September 2004, the board of the Börsenverein made its unique appointment of the German Book Prize Academy which is made up of eleven members.

With representatives from the book industry and the arts and co-sponsors of the Prize, the advisory committee’s most important task is the annual selection of the jury. Publisher Dr. Gottfried Honnefelder is president of the German Book Prize Academy.
