In the coming weeks, literature lovers across Germany will have a chance to better get to know the authors nominated for the German Book Prize 2017.

At ten Blind Date readings, authors longlisted for the German Book Prize 2017 will read from their novels. Just like on a blind date, the audience won’t know in advance whom they’re about to meet: the guest author will only be presented on site. The longlist of the nominated authors and their novels is available at www.deutscher-buchpreis.de.

316 member bookstores of the Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Publishers and Booksellers Association) – 46 more than last year – applied in advance to host a reading. Out of these applications, eight bookstores were selected by lottery to welcome the authors. The Deutsche Bank Foundation, supporter of the German Book Prize, and the Goethe-Institut Denmark are also each organizing an additional reading.
